I've been in the UK for 9 years now and I have definitely turned into one of those people who drops everything once the sun comes out! That weekend in late February when the temperatures went up to high teens, we cancelled everything and decided last minute to go on a day excursion to Whitstable.

As our family runs on Mediterranean timing, we were actually in Whitstable for only half a day. Unfortunately this meant we only had time to have lunch, explore the beach and high street. Fortunately it was enough time to convince us to go again!

Whitstable is a really family-friendly seaside town that is also perfect for foodies. It is fishing village famous for its oysters. If you love seafood, this is the perfect place to visit.

Whitstable Beach

It wasn't quite beach weather back in February, however we did go for a nice stroll along the beach walkway. The walkway is all paved, so we could push the pram along with ease. In fact, there were so many prams and young children out and about along the walk.

Like most English seaside towns, there are pretty beach huts lined up one after another. We spent some time admiring the little colourful huts.

Harbour Street

The Whitstable high street is full of cute and quirky independent shops selling anything from vintage and antiques through to designer clothing. There are also many independent coffee places, nice pubs and even retro sweets shop.

Baby Friendly Place To Eat

We stumbled across The Lobster Shack which turned out to a baby-friendly restaurant. It is positioned right on the beach, so you get a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We ordered some oysters (seeing as we were in Whitstable) and fish & chips. No seaside trip is complete without fish & chips!

Unfortunately service was very slow and it took almost an hour to get our meals. 🥟 was quite calm when we arrived but lost patience as soon as the food was served. 🤦🏻‍♀️

1️⃣ Step free access: It is step free throughout most of Whitstable. There is only one small step to negotiate into the restaurant.

2️⃣ Baby Change Facilities: Yes, there is in the ladies bathrooms. Although it is super snug and not enough space for the doors to open. Therefore no one else can use the toilets when you're changing the baby.

3️⃣ Space for buggy: Yes, it is a bit tight but it is doable.

4️⃣ High Chairs: Yes

5️⃣ Breastfeeding Convenience: Yes, the chairs are quite comfortable for breastfeeding. However space is a bit tight on a busy day.

Getting There:

Whitstable is an easy 1.5hrs drive from London just outside the M25. Alternatively there are trains from London Victoria or St Pancras.
