There are so many benefits taking babies to the seaside such as sensory development, cognitive development and vitamin D. There are also so many benefits with travelling with grandparents, for example free childcare! So when Nonna & Nonno suggested we go on a beach trip together, of course we raised our hands!

We went to Numana for a family beach holiday. Numana is one of the more famous towns on the Conero Riviera. Situated on the east coast of Italy facing out onto the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea. It is a little hidden gem because it is not touristy. The beach is quiet on the weekdays but can get busy on the weekends. There are so many facilities for young children and babies, which is why this town is very popular for families.

Here's what we got up to for 2 weeks.

Chill at the Beach

No explanation needed.. and yep, we did this for 2 weeks!

There are plenty of facilities on this beach which makes everything a little bit easier:

1. Sunbeds: You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas for 18 Euros a day. We negotiated a small discount as we were hiring them for 2 weeks.

2. Beach Activities: For the young or young at heart, you can hire a paddle-board or windsurfing board. There is also a little playground for kids.

3. Restaurant: There is a cafe/restaurant right on the beach so you can enjoy lunch by the sea.

4. Storage & Pump for Inflatables: We had so many inflatables with us, people could mistake us for trying to sell them! Luckily there is storage space for the inflatables, so we didn't need to take it back to our apartment every day. Also there is a pump for inflatables which is free to use.

5. Shuttle Bus: There is a shuttle bus which runs from the beach to the town square every half hour (more frequently on weekends).

Town Events

The one thing that surprised me about Numana is the family friendly night time entertainment. From musicians to magicians, they have something for everyone every night. The events start at Mediterranean children's timing (which is much later than UK children's timing) at around 9:30 at night.

Excursion to Sirolo

Sirolo is a medieval coastal town just 20mins uphill from Numana. The cute little medieval town centre comes alive at night with many people enjoying gelato, perusing the night markets or just strolling along the broadwalk.

The views along the broadwalk are just stunning! You could spend hours gazing out to the sea.

Baby-Friendly Places to Eat

Il Galeone

This pizzeria has an epic view of the Numana seafront. There pizza menu is also very extensive. They have a kids menu which is a pasta based dish. However we packed Dumpling's dinner, so he missed out on the yummy food. My only regret was not to go again to try another pizza!

1️⃣ Step free access: No, there are a few steps however staff are happy to help carry the pram down.

2️⃣ Baby Change Facilities: Sort Of - They have a changing mat, but no changing table. We placed the changing mat between the sink and the bin. It was a bit tricky.

3️⃣ Space for buggy: Yes, staff are accommodating and will create space for buggy

4️⃣ High Chairs: Yes

5️⃣ Breastfeeding Convenience: Yes

La Torre Steakhouse

When I'm by the sea, I normally go for seafood. However hubby really wanted some steak during this holiday. So we decided to try La Torre Steakhouse. I'm glad we did! The steak from this restaurant just melted in my mouth like butter! It was amazing. There are other meat and vegetarian choices too. Also the menu has allergen information which is super handy!

1️⃣ Step free access: Yes.

2️⃣ Baby Change Facilities: No

3️⃣ Space for buggy: Yes. It is all outdoor sitting, there is plenty of space outside

4️⃣ High Chairs: Yes, although the high chair is more suited to a toddler. Unfortunately Dumpling was a bit too small for the high chair

5️⃣ Breastfeeding Convenience: Yes

📍Via della Torre, 1, 60026 Numana

La Torre Ristorante & Terrace

We actually went to La Torre Ristorante to celebrate our anniversary. It is one of the fancier restaurants in Numana with stunning views of the beach. We were there without Dumpling. However as we looked around, there were some families with young children enjoying their meal there too. The restaurant is actually baby friendly. The restaurant also has allergens listed on their menu.

1️⃣ Step free access: No, however the staff are very friendly and I'm sure they will assist

2️⃣ Baby Change Facilities: Yes

3️⃣ Space for buggy: Yes

4️⃣ High Chairs: Yes

5️⃣ Breastfeeding Convenience: Yes

📍Via della Torre, 1, 60026 Numana

Morelli's Gelateria

Ice Cream is my weak spot! I absolutely love Ice Cream! This gelateria has been around since 1927 and is basically an institution in Numana. I can see why as the gelato is out of this world. I basically had a gelato a night!

📍Piazza del Santuario, 3, 60026 Numana

Baby-Friendly Places to Stay

We opted to stay in an apartment in the square. It was extremely convenient to get around the town, however with a baby I would have preferred an apartment by the beach instead. Firstly there was quite a lot of noise from the town centre in the evening. Secondly I had to walk up and down the hill to go back to the apartment every time I wanted to put Dumpling for a nap. As we were not going out much at night, we didn't take advantage of it convenience. Lesson learnt for next time, is to stay closer to the beach instead of the town.

Getting There

The closest airport is Ancona, which is only a 25 minute drive to Numana.

As we were staying with family in Bologna, we drove down from there. This was a 3 hours drive along the A14 highway.

Getting Around

Numana is quite compact and has step free everywhere. The town itself is fairly flat, however the walk to the beach is quite steep. It is a 10 minute walk downhill from the town centre to the beach. Alternatively there is a shuttle bus to and from the beach that runs every half hour.
