We went to the ultra cool east end Bistrotheque for Sunday brunch. Set in a converted warehouse, the ambience was every bit on trend and buzzing.

I did a bit of research before booking a table at the restaurant. In many reviews, this restaurant is said to be child friendly. Unfortunately my experience was slightly different.
As soon as I reached the restaurant, I was greeted by a set of steep stairs with no lift. I panicked thinking how on earth am I meant to lift this pram up the stairs without waking the baby! Luckily my friend had just arrived. She helped me up the stairs, which is not an easy job as baby alone weighs over 9.5kgs.
Once we got up the stairs, the staff showed us to our table and helped make space for the pram. We settled ourselves in and started to enjoy our brunch.
The food at Bistrotheque is absolutely delicious and I can see what the hype is about. I ordered the soft shell crab benedict. The soft shell crab was perfectly crispy and the hollandaise was so creamy.

🥟 woke up half way though the meal and I had to give him a feed. I was sitting along the benches and the space for feeding was a bit tight, however we managed.
As it happens, 🥟proceeded to then do a massive poop resulting in a terrible disaster nappy! I asked staff if there were any baby change facilities I could use. One staff seemed confused and surprised, as if no one has ever asked that before. The manager came over and explained that they didn't have baby change, however there were disabled toilets in the private dining area we could use and that I needed to wait until staff were free to show me where it is. I waited for a good 15-20mins and had to follow up with the staff again. Finally we were shown to the disabled toilets the private dining room. There was a small table in the toilets which I could use. 🥟 had just learnt to roll, so it was extra tricky to change him, keep him safe on the table and not get poop everywhere.
1️⃣ Close to station and step free access: No, not really. It is close to Cambridge Heath station which isn’t step free. Also the restaurant is set on the 1st floor. There are no lifts up, only a set of fairly steep stairs.
2️⃣ Baby Change Facilities: No. However there is a table in the disabled toilets that can be used. Just need to ask staff as it is located in the private dining room.
3️⃣Space for buggy: Yes
4️⃣High Chairs: Yes
5️⃣Breastfeeding convenience: Yes. Space is a bit tight, but doable.
📍23-27 Wadeston Street, E2 9DR
Verdict: I think it is probably friendly for an older child and not a baby. I'd love to go again as the food is delicious, however I'd get a baby sitter next time.
